Water Lilies. Happy Sunday!
"If your eye is generous, your whole being is full of light!" Jesus
Water Lilies on Roger's Pond. Roger's Pond is a man-made pond created on a spit of high ground between the Mousam River and a stream coming in from the west, by diverting water from the Mousam and releasing it into the stream. It was originally a fire pond...where the town filled its fire tankers...and doubles as a skating rink in winter and as a kid's fishing pond in summer. The stretch of the Mousam beside the pond and park is a favorite with fly fisherman (it is one of the few public access areas on the banks of the Mousam) and with Alwive netters in season. For several years a pair of Eagles nested just down river and hunted the edge of the ice beside the park, where the tidal flow of the Mousam reaches its inland limits. The ornimental cherry trees planted there make it is a great spot for winter birds, through mid-winter. In summer the pond is home to dragon and damselflies, and the lilies bloom. A great place altogether.
There is something that speaks to me in these lilies among the reeds. I am moved by the color and the patterns, verticals and horizontals...simple shapes interrupted by the complex and ornate lilies. In quiet sights like this, I hear the still small voice of God...the whisper of love...which is the language that God speaks when God speaks the world. And what can I say in return? What other language shall I speak, if not that same love? And the love of God wells up in me and I dissolve. Such a gift in the lilies on a pond among the reeds. Happy Sunday!
