Woodstar! Happy Sunday.

"If your eye is generous, your whole being is full of light!" Jesus

On our last day in Equador, before catching the red-eye back to to the US, we took a bus up over the Andes and down the eastern slope to 9000 feet, where we spent the day photographing hummingbirds around the feeders at mountain lodge. Brilliant hummingbirds! This is a White-bellied Woodstar, caught in mid-air.

Among God's creatures I find the hummingbirds to be especially fascinating. Their maneuverability, their grace in the air...their diminutive size (relatively speaking)...the way their feathers color the light that strikes them, bending and separating the colors like water drops in the atmosphere creating a rainbow...they are unique beings in so many ways. And they are eye-openers...creatures that open the generous eye in almost everyone who sees them. How can you not be touched by awe, moved in your spirits, when looking at a hummingbird? They open us outward with wonder. And that is a good thing, because I believe the more often our generous eye...the eye that sees God...is opened, the harder it is to close it...the more trouble the stingy self will have ignoring the prompting of the spirit...turning back the light...ignoring the impulse to worship the Creator...our creator, the living and the loving God.

A good thing. I am thankful for hummingbirds. I am thankful for that day in the high Andes when we were surrounded by eye-openers. May your eye be open (opened) today. Happy Sunday!
