Pilgrim Church, Portugal

“If your eye is generous, your whole being is full of light!” Jesus

The rice fields of the Tagus River Estuary across the river from Lisbon Portugal lay flat in the early morning light, under a sky that promises storms before the day is out. On the right you see the semi-ruins of a pilgrimage church, sitting alone in the empty miles. Even today, when all of Portugal is decorated for Christmas, for the celebration of the birth of Jesus, some spots that once knew the songs and prayers of the faithful have fallen into disuse. Only a generous eye can still see the beauty in such places as they blend into the landscape...but then the landscape itself gives glory to the Creator that needs no decoration to remind us of that birth. Morning comes, and the generous eye sees the light of glory in each one, and the soul remembers the coming of the savior. Happy Sunday!
