Lady Slipper Orchid. Happy Sunday!
“If your eye is generous, your whole being is full of light!” Jesus
Elegance...that combination of form and texture and color which pleases without effort...that seems so natural as to be completely unstudied, innocent and pure. We recognize it when we see it, but it is not something we can consciously achieve...something we can attempt. It has to be spontaneous. All we can do is to celebrate it when we do find it. To my eye, there is nothing more elegant than the Lady Slipper Orchid, caught in the right light, against the right background, and from the right angle. Seen with the generous eye. I am convinced that only God, the creator, in the full spontaneity of the creative act, can achieve such elegance. I am convinced that to see the Lady Slipper in its elegance is to appreciate the creative power of God, and partake just a bit in creation itself. And, for today, that is enough. There are always more complicated matters to concern us...mostly having to do with humans and human love and lack of love...but for today the Lady Slipper, caught in this light, against this background, has to be enough. Always enough for the generous eye.
